Areas We Serve

Carpentry and home repair across Buncombe County.

Rob Stimson Carpentry does framing, finish carpentry, painting and home repair in Swannanoa, Black Mountain, Asheville and the rest of Buncombe County. Rob has worked in this county since 1991. Estimates are free, and he comes out to look the same week you call.

Swannanoa

Home repairs in Swannanoa, where Rob lives

Swannanoa comes first because it is home. Rob lives here, so a Swannanoa job gets the shortest drive and the easiest return visit when a door needs one more adjustment. Soffit and fascia rot is the most common call he gets on older houses in this area, followed by trim, doors, drywall and painting.

Swannanoa has no town government, so building permits come from Buncombe County. The county has waived its permit fees on repairs to Helene-damaged primary homes with a documented damage assessment, through June 30, 2027. Any permit goes in your name as the property owner, and Rob tells you what the job needs before the work starts.

Black Mountain

Painting and carpentry in Black Mountain, Montreat and Ridgecrest

Rob paints houses in Black Mountain and repairs the rotted wood under the paint before he starts. Prep is most of the job, so he scrapes, sands and caulks the open joints before the first coat goes on. Montreat and Ridgecrest sit just past Black Mountain, and he takes the same work in both.

Trash pickup for construction debris is different in each town. Where the town does not take it, a landfill trip or a dumpster goes on the estimate as its own line. The number you agree to is the whole number.

Asheville

Home repair in East Asheville, Oteen and across Asheville

East Asheville and Oteen are the part of Asheville nearest Swannanoa. Rob takes the same work there that he takes at home. That means trim, doors, drywall repair, wheelchair ramps, and the list of things that never quite get done. He also takes jobs across the rest of Asheville, with the same free estimate and the same written price.

Older houses here are rarely square, and that has to be seen. Rob measures in place rather than working off a standard size, and cuts each piece to fit what is there.

Fairview

Carpentry jobs in Fairview and further out

Fairview is on the list. Rob takes deck and porch repair, doors, windows, painting and rot repair there. Further out is possible depending on the job. A full exterior repaint or a deck rebuild is worth a longer drive to him, and one sticking door is not. He will say so on the phone instead of driving out to look at it.

Estimates

How an estimate works anywhere in Buncombe County

Rob comes out and looks at the job the same week you call. The written estimate comes the same day he visits or the day after. A small job like hanging a door is sometimes agreed on the phone and invoiced after. A repair sometimes turns out bigger once the old material comes off, and then he stops and writes a change order before going on.

He does not do plumbing, electrical, roofs, gutter cleaning, garage doors, or lawn and yard work, in any town. A job outside his trade gets a no on the phone, and you keep your afternoon.
