Rob handles the finish side of a kitchen or bathroom. Cabinets, countertops, backsplash, tile, flooring, trim, paint, hardware, and replacing a vanity in the same spot.

He does not move plumbing and he does not add electrical. If your plan moves a sink, toilet, tub, or shower, or adds outlets, switches, or fixtures in new places, that job needs a plumber and an electrician, and Rob is not the right first call. Tell us up front and we will say so before anyone drives out.

Rob Stimson Carpentry does the finish side of kitchens and bathrooms in Asheville, Swannanoa, Black Mountain, and the rest of Buncombe County. Rob has been a carpenter since 1985 and has worked in this county since 1991, and on these rooms he handles surfaces and carpentry rather than the mechanical trades.

The work covers cabinet installation and replacement, countertops, backsplash, and tile, flooring, trim, and baseboard, a vanity going back in the same spot, interior painting, and hardware and like for like fixtures. Keeping the existing layout is the cheaper path, because the pipes and wiring stay where they are and nothing has to be rerouted. Rob replaces the cabinets, counters, tile, and flooring in place, so the same budget goes further.

Estimates are free, and if the plan needs a plumber you hear that on the phone before he drives out. The price is in writing before a cabinet comes off the wall, and if the room opens up worse than the estimate covered he stops and writes a change order rather than adjusting the total at the end.

Removing a wall is carpentry, it needs a permit in your name, and Rob does it. Plumbing and electrical are a different trade and stay a hard no at any size, so moving a sink or adding a circuit is not his work, though he has an electrician he refers people to. He also does not take roof surfaces, gutter cleaning, or garage doors.

How do estimates work? +

Rob comes out, looks at the job, and gives you a price before any work starts. Estimates are free. If it turns out to be something he does not do, he will say so on the phone first rather than driving out and wasting your afternoon.

What does Rob charge? +

Small jobs are hourly with a minimum. Larger jobs get a written price before work begins, so you know the number up front.

Does Rob do plumbing or electrical work? +

No. He is a carpenter, not a plumber or an electrician. He will swap a light fixture or a switch for the same kind of thing, but he does not run new wiring, add circuits, or move pipes. If that is what the job needs, you need a different trade first.

What areas does Rob serve? +

Swannanoa first, since that is home, then Black Mountain, East Asheville, Oteen, Fairview, Montreat, Ridgecrest, and Asheville. Further out is possible depending on the job. Just ask.

Can Rob do a kitchen or bathroom remodel? +

The finish side, yes. Cabinets, countertops, backsplash, tile, flooring, trim, paint, and swapping a vanity in the same spot. He does not move plumbing and does not add electrical, so if your plan relocates a sink or adds outlets, you need a plumber and an electrician and Rob is not the right first call. Rob can do it. It needs a permit, and that permit goes in your name as the property owner. It is not the same thing as moving a sink or adding outlets. Those are plumbing and electrical, which he does not take. Keeping the layout is still the cheaper path if you do not need the wall gone.

Needs a permit first

The permit goes in your name as the property owner. Rob tells you what the job needs before it starts, then does the work and coordinates around the inspections.

Cabinets, tile, flooring, and a vanity going back in the same spot need no permit. Taking a wall out does, and Rob does that. Plumbing and electrical are a different trade entirely, and that is not a permit question. He does not take those at any size.
